How to Know if an Insect is Harmful or Not

No matter what your personal opinion on insects is, the last thing you want is for you or your family to be subjected to a harmful one.

Identifying the dangerous insects can be difficult unless you’re a professional or a very well-informed hobbyist. To help out those of you who aren’t either one of those, we’re here to help.

Orange Environmental Services has been helping the area since 1972, and with all that experience, we’ve come across more insects than most. So without further ado, here’s how to know if an insect poses a risk to you.

Harmful Insects

There are a good amount of harmful insects that you should be aware of, and since they pose a threat to you, we’ll start listing them first.

  • Bees & Wasps

It shouldn’t be any surprise that these have made the list. They often find a comfortable place to build their home in your house or very close by. This not only causes damage to your home but also poses the threat of stings.

  • Termites

Termites are notorious for causing damage to homes in every nook and cranny. They can destroy a home's structural integrity in the blink of an eye and are hard to remove before it’s too late.

If you keep a lookout for both of these insects and their warning signs, you should be able to eliminate them without them causing any serious damage.

Non-Harmful Pests

Now onto the insects that you really shouldn't worry about.

  • Spiders

Here us out, spiders are not actually the risk that a lot of people think of them as. Even spiders like black widows aren’t likely to pose much danger. Spiders only bite when they think they’re being attacked. So if you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you. They also love to feast on other pesky insects in your home so you don’t have to worry about them yourself.

  • Ladybugs

We doubt that anyone has been fearing ladybugs, but we want to reassure those of you who have seen an increased amount of them either in your home or on your property. Ladybugs are actually very beneficial, just like spiders. They eat whiteflies, mites and fleas.

If you’re noticing harmful insects on your property, then you shouldn’t wait and let the problem get worse. We’ll easily identify the insects in your home that pose a problem and then quickly take them out of your home for good. Contact Orange Environmental Services today.
